Did your Dad/Grandad attend1st Knowsley Scouts

A few months ago, we were contacted via twitter by Mark Antrobus who now lives in Belgium and is active in the @1stBrussels troup.  Mark’s grandfather was 1st Knowsley’s scout leader in the 1950’s and Mark had an old photo of the group taken outside Knowsley Hall. If you click the photo you should be able to see it in the biggest size we can get.

Does anybody have any memories of the photo being taken, or know anybody in the photograph would be of interest to the group.

Finally, we would like to thank Mark for contacting us and providing us with this little slice of 1st Knowsley’s history (sorry we took so long getting it uploaded Mark!).

The newsletter has various articles about upcoming events, and this particular edition has the following articles:

  • Fancy some canoeing this autumn? Why not come and join in one or two of our sessions?
  • Pool Session at Guinea Gap Baths, Seacombe
  • Lake District River Trip Sunday 9 December
  • Christmas Tradition Sunday 30 December

If you have any interest in any of the articles, can you have a chat with Dave.

St George’s Day Parade

On Sunday 22nd April there will be a church parade for Beavers Cubs and scouts. All cubs that attend, as a treat, get to go to a first kyaking session. The parade will take place at St Helens parish church.

For those people who have not arranged to meet at the scout hut, please meet at Birchley Street Car Park at 2:00pm.

Full uniform must be worn, no trainers, please wear school shoes, and wear cub jumpers not just the activity t-shirts. If you do not have cub uniform, please wear either your beaver uniform or your school uniform.

This post was guest written by Rachael from the cubs section.

Fundraising

As normal we are trying to raise funds and this week the leaders have been looking at more ways to achieve this.

We have been in touch with Roberts Recycling. They are going to help us raise funds from your old re-usable clothes, shoes, handbags and belts (no bedding or pillows please).

All you have to do is bring your items in bags to the scout hut and we will do the rest. All bags must be brought to the hut no later than the 24th March. So don’t give your stuff to those bags that come through the door, bring them here, the money is going into scout funds which your child will benefit from.

Secondly,

The Scout Association have joined forces with shop2fundraise. Together they are currently running a competition for the group that downloads the most toolbars for the shop2fundraise site. The prize being £800. As we are a smallish group we don’t have much of a chance of the £800 but every little helps as they say so here is what you have to do.

This link will take you to our page:

http://www.shop2fundraise.co.uk/directory.php?orgID=539452

Before you purchase on-line, go to shop2fundraise site and go to 1st Knowsley page and then make your purchase as normal. It is simple, our group then gets a percentage from your purchase. It costs you no extra, just a few extra clicks. Nobody here knows what you are buying, that is all private. All we see is the total donated.

Thanks so much for your support.

If you have any fundraising ideas or if you would like to run an event for us, just speak to one of the Leader Team. We will be pleased to help.
